  • Facilities and Services - This Spanish learning centre is found in the heart of the colonial centre of Santo Domingo, near to a lot of the principal tourist sights such as the Alcazar de Colón and the Museo de las Casas Reales.   • Teaching Methods and Accreditation - Hispaniola uses the Direct Method of language teaching and only Spanish is spoken from the very beginning. They follow the advice and guidelines outlined by the Real Academia de la Lengua and they also try to organise regular activities where students will meet and interact with the Dominican people and so practice the language skills that they are learning during their classes each day. All teachers are qualified, young and enthusiastic graduates. There is the possibility to gain University credits through participating in a language program at this school
  • Courses Offered and Levels - There is a wide variety of courses to choose from at this Spanish centre. They offer a Standard course with 20 hours of lessons per week and a Standard Long Duration course for anything from 10 weeks up. The Intensive course has 30 hours per week of lessons and can last from 2 to 24 weeks and the Intensive Plus course has either 25 or 30 lessons a week and can be taken for anywhere from 2 weeks to 16. There are also a large number of special or more specific courses such as Spanish with Culture, Medical Spanish, Spanish for Politicians and Diplomats, Emergency Language (Fire Fighters, Red Cross workers, etc.), DELE Preparation, Tourism and Culture, Spanish with an Exam Certificate, Business Assistance (help with language for setting up a business in the Dominican Republic), Private lessons, Haitian Creole lessons, a Cooking course, a Dance course and a specialised course for teachers, managers, etc. There are six levels of Spanish ability at this Spanish academy, ranging from Beginner to Perfecting
  • Extra-Curricular Activities and Trips - Every week the school organises a number of different activities for you to take part in during your free time, for example, Latin American dance classes, Creole Cooking classes, trips to the Casino or Cinema, Dinners, Flamenco and Tacos evenings. At the weekends trips are often organised to destinations such as Samana Bay, Lago Enriquillo (look out for the crocodiles!), Rio San Juan and the Cri Cri Lagoon
  • Accommodation - During your Spanish course you can opt to stay with a Spanish host family, in an apartment or in a hotel. The school will try to place you in accommodation that is within the colonial zone as far as possible.

  • Facilities and Services - This Spanish Academy is nearby to Santo Domingo's famous University and only ten minutes away from the colonial part of the city. It is surrounded by bars and cafes for relaxing in between classes. There is a small garden outside the school and a cafeteria to fix your rumbling stomach after classes and you can access the large collection of resources available in the university library. Pupils are encouraged to use the Spanish language from the very beginning and there will be an opportunity to have exchanges with Domincan students who are in the school for German lessons, so as you can make use of the skills that you are picking up during the day. At the weekends excursions are often organised to Las Terrenas and, depending on the time of year, La Vega Carnival. Additional activities that are easily organised in the surrounding area include horse riding, scuba diving, snorkeling, golf, tennis and mountain bike tours.
